Authentication through Personal Access Token (PAT)
To connect to Atlassian Jira Software, Kindor needs a private token or personal token authentication.
To ensure optimal access to your Jira organization's projects metadata, we recommend creating a dedicated user account for Kindor. This user will be used to create a personal access token, as explained later. It's worth noting that access tokens inherit their privileges from the user account under which they are generated, and thus, Kindor will never ask for the user's credentials.
Please consider that for each new project introduced within your Jira organization, it's imperative to grant privileges to the created user. This allows Kindor to effectively monitor these new projects, access their metadata, and generate insights. Kindor will only analyze the projects it has access to.
The management of this user's privileges rests with you. You have the authority to adjust access to projects within your Jira organization as needed. Essentially, you can control Kindor's access to your Jira organization by modifying this user's privileges. For example, if your Jira organization encompasses projects unrelated to technology or engineering, Kindor won't access data unless the user account created has appropriate read permissions for these projects.
To integrate Atlassian Jira, Kindor will only ask for the personal access token, the email address used to create this user and the base url of your Atlassian Jira Software account.
To create a personal access token, please follow these steps:
Create a Personal Access Token
On the right sidebar of your Jira Account, select your avatar and click on "Manage account"
On the top menu, navigate to the "Security" tab and, in the "API tokens" section, select "Create and manager API tokens"
Select "Create API token", enter a label (eg. "Kindor) and click on "Create"
Copy and save the API token somewhere safe before you leave the page. This is the only time you will have access to this token.
After completing these steps, please share the following information with Kindor:
API Token (The one generated in the steps above)
Email Address of the user that was used to create the Token above
Base URL of your Atlassian Jira Account (usually follows a format like this: https://COMPANY_NAME.atlassian.net/jira/)
